The IDU, of which the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is a member, is a working association of over 80 Conservative, Christian Democrat and like-minded political parties of the centre and centre right.

The NPP was able to join the IDU courtesy the intervention of Mr Kufuor when he was President of the Republic of Ghana.

Therefore, the leadership of the Union deemed it fit to pay a courtesy call on him before the commencement of a meeting by the leadership in Accra.

Peter Mac Manu, the 2016 Campaign Chairman of the NPP, who led the delegation to the office of the former president on Tuesday June 20, said: “We have had the opportunity to host an IDU executive meeting for the first time in our history and the first African country south of the Sahara to do so. We cannot come to Accra, Ghana, and do the deliberations without honouring the push and driver of our membership of this union, former President Kufuor.

“We are here this afternoon with the leadership of IDU to pay a courtesy call on you to show our respect that we really cherish the good times we have had with the push and drive you gave us that enabled us to join this association.”
