#GhanaVotes2016 : Live updates from voting centres

Voting in today's Presidential and Parliamentary elections is scheduled to begin at exactly 7 am this morning.

According to Graphic Online reporters from across the country, some electoral officers arrived at their designated polling stations as early as 3.00am.

1:27pm - Voting has been progressing orderly and peacefully in the Okaikoi Central Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, reports Maclean Kwofi.

So far there has not been any untoward incident for the past five hours since the process started.

However, it was observed that there were a number of misunderstanding among electoral officers, polling agent and some voters about the placement of the screen in most of the polling stations in the constituency.

But in those instances, the Presiding Officers made appropriate decision to salvage the situation and calm was restored.

At the Foursquare Gospel Church Abeka, 201 people out of 515 had voted as at 12:00 noon. Voting at the Success Achievers Academy Abeka, was going on peacefully as at 12:20. When Graphic Online visited 281out of 658 had voted.

1:20pm - Our reporter, Kwame Larweh reports that voting has been largely peaceful at the Ablekuma South Constituency where Accra Mayor Okoe Vanderpuye of the National Democratic Congree is contesting against Jerry Ahmed of the New Patriotic Party and Paa Kwesi Longden of the Progressive People's Party.

Most of the polling stations the Graphic Online visited were calm as voters cast their ballots.

The reporter also visited the Blue Gate Polling Station, Mamprobi Ebenezer 4 Polling Stations, the Christmas Egypt Polling Station and Chorkor Polling Station.

Mr Chris Osei Yeboah, the presiding officer at the Sempe One polling station, expressed satisfaction with the turn out.

He said the elections were going on smoothly and praised the electorate for their responsible behaviour.

12:13pm - The Presidential Candidate of the Progressive People's Party (PPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, has successfully cast his vote at the SSNIT polling station of the Komenda-Edna-Eguafo-Abirem constituency in the Central Region.

Also present to cast her vote was his wife, Mrs Yvvone Nduom. The two arrived at the polling station around 10 and finished voting in less than 20 minutes. 

At exactly 12.00pm, the Offinsohene, Nana Wiafe Akenteng III, joined voters at the Old DASS "A" Polling Station to exercise his franchise.

He was assisted by the Presiding Officer, Mr Daniel Kofi Agyare to go through the voting process.

As of the time, 279 voters had cast their votes out of the expected 697 registered voters for the polling station.

11:57am - Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has cast his ballot at the Accra Senior High School polling station

NPP presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo cast his vote at the Rock of Ages polling station in Kyebi

10.08am - Mary Mensah reports that voting started at a number of polling stations within the La Dadekotopon constituency started at 8am due to the delay of logistics.

So far, no major incident has been recorded at the over nine polling stations so far visited.

First Lady, Lordina Mahama voted at the Rangoon polling station at Cantoments in Accra

An 89-year-old woman from Abokobi was driven to the Rangoon school at Cantoments to cast her vote. She couldn't walked properly so she was carried by her grandson to the polling station to cast her vote.

9.38am - Bernard Neequaye reports that voting begun at exactly 7.05am at the Nkome-Nfa JHS Polling Station at the Ledzokuku Constituency in Accra.

According to the Polling Officer, Emmanuel Doku Botchway, their late start to voting was as a result of materials arriving late.

He said there are 815 registered voters expected to cast their votes at the station.

He explained that there have been no complaints yet from any party officials. 

9.31am - Shirley Asiedu-Addo reports that at the Akatakyiwa Catholic KG polling station in the Mfantseman constituency 82 people have voted. "There was calm and order during the process. The Presiding Officer at the station, Mr Crawther Williams, said voting started at 7:04 am and there had been no incident".

At the Twene Amanfo Polling Station at Twene Amanfo in Sunyani, long queues were formed as early as 8pm Tuesday night and some early birds had been issued numbers to identifythemselves and ensure order.

At the Nyame Bekyere school Polling Station in the Kwesimtim constituency, preparation was still underway but there was a long queue at about 6.10 am.

At the Accra Brewery Polling Station, election materials arrived at exactly 6 .10am.

At the Circuit Court A and B Polling Station in the Wa Central Constituency voters numbering over 35 as at 6.20am were unsure which of the polling station their names were registered.

At the Gbawe Bullemin Polling Station electoral officers and voters are in disagreement on the positioning of the ballot screens. While some think it is mandatory to let the screens face the people for transparency, the polling officers are of different view.

At the Kwabenya Prefect School which has 4 polling stations, people have been gathering since 10.30 pm yesterday.

AMA Revenue Office at Bubuashie

Graphic MD Kenneth Ashigbey reports from the AMA Revenue Office at Bubuashie that voting started at exactly 7am at two centers - A & B.

He says there 669 registered voters and 1 transferred voter at centre B where Nathaniel Howard is the Presiding officer.     

At Center A the Presiding officer is Eric Ayertey and there are 695 registered voters, 4 transfers and no proxy voters.

So far 21 people have cast their ballot voted as at 7:29am

Voting progressing in an orderly manner with a CODEO officer present.

There are also three party representatives present - NDC, PPP and NPP.

The presiding officers forsee a challenge for voters when the sun rises and are considering getting canopies to the venue.

Manual verification at Walewale

Graphic Online's Zadok Kwame Gyesi reports that 15 people have already voted at the New Market polling station in the Walewale constituency.

A total of 825 voters are expected to cast their ballots at the polling station.

Mr Issah Illomah, the Presiding Officer said all the party agents and voters were conducting themselves in an orderly manner.

He, however, added that some of the voters could not be verified using the electronic device and that such voters were taken through the manual verification process.

Bernard Neequaye reports that voting started at exactly 7am at the Neighbourhood Center at the Ledzokuku Constituency in Accra.

According to the Polling Officer, Abeiku Sam Acquah, they received all materials on time and hopefully the process will move on smoothly as planned.

He said 892 people are expected to vote at the center and he is confident everyone would be afforded the chance to vote.
