#Ghanaelections: Counting begins as voting comes to an end

Counting is underway at various polling stations across the country as the Electoral Commission (EC) as voting came to an end at 5pm.

However, voting is still ongoing at the Jaman North Constituency in the Brong Ahafo Region where the process was delayed due to some misunderstanding.

The election process has so far been smooth with a few irregularities reported at some polling stations.

Two women were arrested at Asafo in Kumasi for allegedly engaging in multiple voting through the use of Electoral Commission (EC) branded reflector jackets.

The two women, one of them an EC official moved away from her post at the polling station near the Asafo Palace to behind a drinking spot and handed over her EC jacket to the other woman.

The Kyebi Police also arrested four students of the Kyebi College of Education for allegedly engaging in a malpractice.

The students, three females and a male are alleged to be members of the Tertiary Educational Institutions Network (TEIN), a student’s wing of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC). They stand accused of possessing already thumb printed ballot papers.

Three men were also assaulted by some voters at the South Suntreso SDA Polling station within the Nhyiaeso constituency in Kumasi on suspicion they were ballot box snatchers.

The three, who had gone to the polling station, according to the police were “misconstrued” as ballot box snatchers and that when they saw the mob approaching they took to their heels.
