Election is about future of the youth — Nana Akufo-Addo
The flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, last Thursday told teeming students of the Pentecost University College (PUC) at Sowutuom in Accra that this year’s election is about the future of the youth for which reason they ought to lead the agenda for change.

Nana Akufo-Addo, who was on a campaign tour of the Anyaa-Sowutuom Constituency, said all that stood between the present and the future of the Ghanaian youth was the gloom brought by an insensitive National Democratic Congress (NDC) regime that had no regard for the youth of the country and their future prosperity.
The governance regime of the President Mahama-led administration, he said, had been one of escalating cost of living without a corresponding betterment in the standard of living.
It had become difficult, he said, for parents to pay the fees of their children in tertiary institutions, adding that prospects of the youth finding jobs upon completion of their education had become bleak.
Hope for a better future
The lack of job opportunities for the youth, he said, was evident in the fact that apart from the high number of graduates in the system who were frustrated and crying for their inability to land jobs, universities across the country were about to produce another batch of graduates who would also have no jobs.
The only way of restoring hope, prosperity and a brighter future for the teeming unemployed youth of the country, he said, was for the youth to vote for a change that would place their interest within the scheme of development planning.
The meeting, which was supposed to have been between the flag bearer and members of the Tertiary Education Students Confederacy (TESCON), saw an invasion of other youth and adults from the constituency who walked long distances to the PUC to listen to Nana Akufo-Addo’s message.
He said majority of the aged population had become disillusioned by the governance style of the NDC that had brought nothing but untold hardship to the people of Ghana.
Message of hope
The only hope for such category of people, he said, was predicated on the youth voting massively for the NPP as the next government that would right the wrongs of the NDC.
At the other locations, he asked the people to examine their lives and see whether they were better or worse off under President Mahama.
“President John Mahama is the single threat to the future of Ghana,” he said, and urged Ghanaians to vote that incompetent administration out on December 7, 2016 and usher in a new era of hope under his leadership.
The campaign tour virtually turned into a street carnival when the designated areas where Nana Akufo-Addo was scheduled to address party faithful and others were abandoned as huge numbers of supporters draped in party colours chose to line up along road sides waiting for his arrival.
In a move that could be described as an ambush, there was spontaneous outpouring of people when Nana Addo entered the constituency.
Human traffic
This same scenario occurred at Israel, Tabora, Sowutuom, Santa Maria, Alhaji, and Anyaa where human traffic engulfed the roads meant for vehicles.
The flag bearer of the NPP had a less difficult task on all those occasions as he addressed the enthusiastic crowd from the opening atop his vehicle.
That task was made possible by the presence of a pick-up vehicle that was equipped with loudspeakers through which he delivered his message of “hope” to the people.
The aspiring parliamentary candidate for the Anyaa-Sowutuom Constituency, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, said the 2016 election was one that would determine the destiny of the youth of the country.
She, therefore, urged her constituents to vote massively to ensure that the NPP, led by Nana Addo, would win by a huge margin that would remain historically uncontested in the politics of the country.
