Supporters and sympathisers of the National Democratic Congress ( NDC) drawn from the constituency converged on the Ejura public park where he addressed a rally.

President Mahama assured the chiefs and the people that the area would benefit from the farmers service centres as spelt out in the party’s manifesto to help them boost food production in the area.

He said Ejura, as a one of the food baskets of the country, would be provided with the necessary inputs and support to enable farmers to increase their yields and boost their earnings.

The President, therefore, urged the people in the area to take advantage of the facilities at the centre for their benefit.

The General Secretary of the NDC, Mr Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah, introduced the party’s parliamentary candidate, Alhaji Muhammed Bawa, to the people and urged them to vote massively for President Mahama and the candidate for the NDC to retain power.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Ejurahene, Barima Osei Hwedie II, recalled that the PNDC/ NDC governments had not left them out in terms of development projects and, therefore, commended them for such pragmatic efforts.

Barima Osei Hwedie announced that the Ejura Traditional Council had released 600 acres of farmland to the Ghana Prison Service to cultivate foodstuffs for the inmates of the prisons.

He said it had also constructed a 10-bedroom accommodation for the staff of the Ejura National Fire Service.

He appealed to the President to help the municipality to have a befitting hospital as the Ejura Government Hospital was overstretched.

That, Barima Osei Hwidie said, when implemented could serve many communities in the Ejura-Sekyedumasi Municipality.

He also said the municipality needed a Nursing Training College and stressed that the chiefs and people had started to use structures given to the community at Ejura by the World Vision International (WVI) for relief services.

He, therefore, called on the government to come to their aid.

Increasing population

Nana Ejurahene, who is known in private life as Mr Enoch Osei Mensah and a Deputy Chief of State Protocol in charge of operations of the Office of the President,  pleaded with the President to give the municipality a Police Divisional status because of the increasing population to check crime.

Nana stated that he and his elders and the people were embarking on a number of development projects to complement that of the government.

In his response, President Mahama said the rousing welcome accorded him demonstrated that the NDC would retake the constituency which is currently occupied by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He said projects spread all over the country amply demonstrated that the government was on course.

He said the many infrastructure development in the areas of health, education, roads, water and electricity which the government had undertaken nationwide would serve as a catalyst for the transformation of the lives of the people.

He stated that 46 communities in the municipality had been connected to the national grid.
