EC must declare NDC Youth Organiser polls results or annul process – Gen Mosquito

The General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah says the Electoral Commission is duty-bound to pronounce on the outcome of the party’s ill-fated National Youth Organiser polls held in Kumasi at the weekend.

The final results are yet to be declared after EC officials and party gurus abandoned the final moments of the process to elect party youth organisers as a result of confusion brought about by supporters of factions contesting deputy youth organiser posts.

But on Monday, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah told Citi FM that the EC has a duty to either declare the results of the poll or if in its judgment the process was not credible enough, annul it.

The EC cannot leave the results in a vacuum, he said, explaining that it is the decision of the Commission relative to the election that could be petitioned against or contested, it is not the EC’s indecision and it cannot leave the matter inconclusive.

“Either way, those who are dissatisfied with the decision of the commission can then petition, and then we compare their petition against the decision of the commission because all the laws of the country talk about petitioning against the decision of the commission. It does not talk about indecision of the commission. So I think that the way to go is to request Electoral Commission to make a pronouncement. If they think that the results they have qualify, in terms of all the criteria of proper elections, then they proceed to give us the winners and losers and then we open the floor for anybody who wants to protest or petition to use the proper channels to petition and then we will compare the content of the petition against the decision and the justification that has been given by the Electoral Commission.”
