A press statement from the DWM said “the attention of the Board of Directors of Developing Women for Mobilisation (DWM), formerly the 31st December Women’s Movement, has been drawn to an article in the Al-Hajj newspaper dated July 25, 2017 to the effect that certain persons purporting to be members of DWM held a meeting at Ashaiman to ostensibly deliberate on the affairs of DWM.”

Disregard meeting

The release, signed by Madam Sylvia Ahorlu, General Secretary of the DWM, therefore, urged the general public to disregard any information released to the public as a result of what it described as “this illegal meeting.”

It stated that those who convened the said meeting did not have the auth0ority of the DWM to call such a meeting and that the said meeting was called and held in violation of the regulations of the company.

“Accordingly, any and all decisions taken at the said meeting were null and void and are of no effect,” the statement added.

Explaining further, the statement indicated that the DWM was a non- governmental organisation with the sole objective to empower Ghanaian women.

DWM not wing of NDC

Furthermore, it stated that the DWM was not a women’s wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as described in the said article, stating “DWM is an NGO for all women of Ghana.”

The statement also drew the attention of the public that the DWM is a company limited by guarantee, and is governed by the Companies Act 1963, Act 179 and its Regulations.

The registered objects of the DWM, the statement pointed out included to mobilise women towards national reconstruction, to set up clinics, day care centres, foster homes and schools, set up cottage industries and providing social services.

Others are to educate Ghanaian women on their agric responsibilities and to liaise with other progressive women’s organisations all over the world.
