Disregard nomination of MCE - Yilo Krobo Traditional Council

The Yilo Krobo Traditional  Council in the Eastern Region has called on the Presidency and the general public to disregard a press release on the nomination of the Yilo Krobo Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) that was purported and alleged to have come from the council.

A statement signed by the acting President of the Yilo Krobo Traditional Council, Nene Tetteh Odorkor Tumeh, at Somanya, noted that the council has not authorised anyone at all, not even Nene Tetteh Agblezee, one of the Divisional Chiefs,  to make any statement on the nomination and appointment of MCE for the area as being purported on social media.

He added,  “That issue was never discussed at any traditional council meeting whatsoever’’.

The traditional council further stated that,  “Nene Agblezee could  be speaking for himself and was being biased towards a particular candidate out of the lot that had been shortlisted for the position.  The traditional council has nothing to do with political appointments as purported in his release.”

According to the press release , the action of Nene Agblezee who even opted out of the council some years ago sought to question the competence of the appointing authority, the President  of the Republic of Ghana, in choosing the right person to be  the MCE for Yilo Krobo.

“The members of the Yilo Krobo Traditional Council hereby state that we have absolute confidence in His Excellency, the President’s leadership and believe same will guide his appointment of a more competent municipal chief executive for Yilo Krobo,’’ the statement stressed.

Usurpation

“ The Yilo Krobo Traditional Council does not believe in usurpation, pressurising mandated authorities and above all fronting for someone in the same traditional area. What Nene Agblezee III did is a  calculated plan and agenda to benefit him and not the entire traditional area,’’ the statement added.

According to the traditional council, the statement “we the chiefs, opinion leaders  and stakeholders want to remind the President of his assurance that he would appoint MCEs in consultation with chiefs and other stakeholders,’’ was the hidden agenda of Nene Agblezee since the traditional council does not want to involve itself in  political issues, especially those connected with appointments.

The statement said since all the divisional chiefs, Asafoatseme and all opinion leaders of the Yilo Krobo Traditional Council were not part of that statement, the council was considering where and when it took that decision, adding that that clearly showed Nene Agblezee’s personal interest  in the affairs of the Yilo Krobo MCE.

‘’In conclusion,  we the traditional council would like to disassociate ourselves from the purported press release attributed to the Yilo Krobo Traditional Council,’’ the statement said.

The traditional council, therefore, says it has no mandate to dictate to the President who he should choose as the Yilo Krobo MCE because the power lies in his hands.
