The demonstration dubbed “Di Miiya” in Dagbani which literally means “Times Are Tough” is aimed at putting pressure on the National Democratic Congress (NDC)-led government to reduce utility tariffs by at least 50 per cent in the region.

It is intended to draw the attention of the president to the “worsening” living conditions of the people in the Northern Region under the NDC government.

The demonstration is being led by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Other political parties supporting and participating in the “Di Miiya” Demonstration include the People's National Convention (PNC), Convention People's Party (CPP), Progressive People's Party (PPP), All People's Congress (APC), and National Democratic Party (NDP).

It will be recalled that the coalition of the opposition parties in the Northern Region at a press conference held at the Madras Hotel on Monday, August 16, this year threatened to demonstrate against President Mahama and government on Monday, August 22, 2016 should he fail to meet their demands.

The Northern Regional Secretary of the NPP, Mr Sule Salifu at the press conference said President Mahama and his government have taken people in the region for granted.

According to him, it was only through the demonstration that the president would listen to voices of the people in the region.
