The party’s 2016 Presidential Candidate, Mr Ivor Kobina Greenstreet and the Chairman and the leader of the party, Prof. Edmund Delle, led the party’s rank and file to mark the day.

The party pledged to work with the TUC as it continuously sought better wages, better conditions of work and the fight against exploitation.

The presidential candidate continued with his Apam fofor tour to Ahanta West, Tarkwa, Prestea and Wassa Akropong (Amenfi East) en route to Dunkwa after the celebration.

According to reports, response so far is encouraging.

Earlier in the Western Region, the leadership of the CPP paid a courtesy call on the Omanhen of Esikado, Nana Kobina Nketia.

Renew  CPP, TUC ties

Meanwhile, the political committee of the CPP  has called for the renewal of the ties between the party and the TUC.

It said the two bodies must combine forces in the struggle for economic freedom and prosperity to fulfil the aspirations of the people at the time of freedom from colonial rule.

In a congratulatory message to the TUC to mark May Day, the CPP pointed out that it was the partnership of the CPP and the workers of Ghana that won political freedom for the country in its search for development and prosperity.

The message, which was signed by Mr Ekow Duncan, Chairperson of the Political Committee of the CPP, noted ,however, that the gains of the reconstruction of the colonial economy through industrialisation were achieved by the CPP government of the First Republic.

The statement, however, said the gains had been eroded by the structural adjustment programme implemented by the P/NDC and continued under the government of the NPP.

The CPP statement pointed out that the reversal of the gains of the socio-economic development achievements of the CPP through an implementation of the Economic Recovery Programme and the Structural Adjustment of the P/NDC and the NPP have weakened the TUC and the fundamentals of the national economy.

It also said the divestiture and closure of the manufacturing plants that were established by the government of the CPP had reduced the membership of the TUC.

The CPP stated that the interest behind the Breton Wood institutions dictated a policy of fiscal austerity in a determination of the parameters of the macroeconomic management policy that reduced the role of the government in development.
