The acting National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Freddie Blay, has restated the government’s commitment to sustaining measures put in place to enable the country to recover from the economic mess the party inherited from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He expressed confidence that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his ministers would work hard to correct the mistakes of the previous government in order to bring the economy to the path of progress for the betterment of all Ghanaians.

Mr Blay challenged the ministers of state, metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives (MMDCEs), constituency and regional executives of the party to work with humility and honesty to support the President to execute his mandate successfully.

He was speaking at the Brong-Ahafo Regional NPP delegates’ conference at the Sunyani Technical University last Saturday.

The delegates’ conference

The conference brought together delegates from the 29 constituencies in the region, regional executives, some Members of Parliament (MPs) from the region, the municipal and district chief executives, regional council of elders, some founder members, patrons, TESCON representatives as well as past and present regional and constituency executives.

It is a constitutional requirement for the party to hold annual delegates’ conferences from the constituency through to the regional level before holding the national conference.

This year’s national conference of the party is scheduled for Cape Coast.

Mr Blay particularly thanked the leadership of the party in the region for their hard work that resulted in the party increasing its parliamentary seats from 13 to 20, emphasising that NPP would work hard to make it an obvious choice for the people in the region in subsequent elections.

He said the government’s policies and programmes such as “One-District, One-Factory’’ and the provision of 1 million dollars per constituency would help improve the socio-economic status of deprived districts, constituencies and communities.

Mr Blay said the government’s aim was to use such policies and programmes to create employment for the teeming youth and called on institutions to use the funds judiciously.

NPP mistakes identified

The acting General Secretary of the party, Mr John Boadu, said they had identified a number of mistakes that brought the party into opposition in 2008, adding that mistakes committed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had also been identified.

He, therefore, assured members of the party that such mistakes would not be repeated and called on the executives of the party to work hard at the constituency level to help the party retain power in 2020.

Mr Boadu advised members of the party not to use the media as a platform to solve their problems but rather consult the council of elders to assist them to resolve issues.

He said President Akufo-Addo had put in place pragmatic measures to make life more comfortable for Ghanaians and called for support from the constituency, regional and national executives levels for the successful implementation of such policies.

Mr Boadu said the party would not be distracted by attempts by the NDC to lure it into daily arguments instead of concentrating on the real issues that would enable the government to tackle the mess that it left behind.
