This follows its success in the Functional Organisation Assessment for 2011.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Ms Ophelia Koomson, announced this at the first ordinary meeting of the assembly at Akyem Oda.

She said the grant would be used to construct U-culverts on the MTTU/Nursing Training Road and a passengers lounge and tollbooth at the Akyem Oda Lorry Park at the cost of GH¢340,000.00 and GH¢160,000.00, respectively.

Ms Koomson said the assembly also emerged successful for the 2012 assessment and thus qualified for the grant of funds for both investment projects and capacity development programmes.

Under UDG03, she said release of funds under the District Development Facility had lately been stagnant.

“For almost three years, the funds have not been released as expected and this is affecting the implementation of projects proposed to be funded by the facility,” she stated.

Ms Koomson said the road network in the Akyem Oda municipality was not the best and to help address the situation, she had managed to get the Department of Urban Roads to set up an office in the area to speed up the work.

She also indicated that the security situation at Akyem Oda and the peri-urban communities was under control and added that there was constant police patrol every night to ensure that armed robbery and other security threats were brought under control.

“I wish, therefore, to appeal to members to complement the efforts of the security by helping to monitor the situation in their localities and to promptly report any security threat,” she said.

Ms Koomson said no nation could develop in an atmosphere of mistrust and acrimony and, therefore, urged the assembly members to effectively collaborate for the development of the municipality. - GNA
