Asamoah Gyan: I don’t fund politics

Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan, aka Baby Jet, has denied suggestions he might be a financier of the presidential ambitions of New Patriotic Party flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

In multiple tweets at his handle, ASAMOAH_GYAN3, the national goal poacher says he is only a footballer and not one to fund politics.

“I serve GH not politicians nor parties, I don't fund politics, there's more joy in charity and philanthropy n my works are my evidence,” he tweeted at 3:41pm Wednesday.

On Monday afternoon, host of the Pampaso socio-political discussion programme on Accra-based Muntie FM, Mugabe Maase, had invited Gyan to clear the air on what he said was information he was receiving to the effect that he, Asamoah, had promised some funding for the campaign of Nana Addo.

The host wanted to know if Asamoah remained a national captain or was now a partisan politician.

A panel member also pointed out that the opposition leader was at the outdooring of Asamoah Gyan’s three-million-dollar mansion at Weija in Accra in June 2015, suggesting a link.

But Asamoah who says he remains a footballer, finds the discussion irresponsible and wants the owners of the station to call the host to order.

"Say no to irresponsible journalism, the owners/managers of Muntie fm must call Mugabe to order.  I'm a footballer and not a politician..," he tweeted.

But he also had some scolding for “irresponsible Journalism”, asking his critics to “get a life.”

"Journalism is a noble profession, say no to irresponsible Journalism... hate can't win.. get a life n God will bless u...," he tweeted.
