AFAG calls off press conference to trumpet the sacking of BOST MD over contaminated fuel saga
The Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) on Thursday morning called off a press conference which had been scheduled to talk about the fuel contamination saga at the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation (BOST) Company.

An invitation which was sent out to media houses to attend the press conference at the SSNIT Guest House in Accra at 10am said, “Issue: Call for the sacking of BOST Chief Executive. AFAG is hopeful that you would honour this invitation in our joint quest to clean up the public space.”
The reason for the cancellation of the press conference was not made known except that staff at the SSNIT Guest House told journalists who had gathered at the conference room at 10:46am that, they have information from the organisers that the press conference would no longer come on.
The disappointed journalists who expressed anger at the development, packed their equipment and left, reports Graphic Online’s Zadok Kwame Gyesi and Richmond Oppong Frimpong who got to the venue at 9:15am.
Already, Mr Kennedy Agyapong, the Assin Central Member of Parliament on Thursday morning alleged on radio [Oman FM] that he had information that some members from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) were scheming to get Mr Alfred Obeng Boateng sacked as the Managing Director of BOST in the wake of the sale of the contaminated fuel saga.
According to him, Mr Obeng was a threat to shady deals of a cartel in the contaminated fuel saga at BOST, adding that, this was not the first time that fuel has accidentally been contaminated at BOST.
He said over the years the practice has been happening and anytime that happens, some members of the cartel get the opportunity to buy the fuel, process and sell it in the open market.
This time around, the new MD, Mr Obeng who came into office to meet the contaminated fuel denied the cartel the opportunity to buy the said fuel, hence they subsequently ganged up, and clandestinely sponsored a campaign to get rid of him as the MD.
The accidental contamination was said to have happened on January 18, 2017 and the staff involved have since been sanctioned.
Mr Agyapong said he also had information that some ‘serial callers’ of the NPP have also been contacted to initiate a “smear” campaign against Mr Obeng.
