Adjei Sowah receives 100 per cent endorsement as Accra Mayor

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has unanimously endorsed the nomination of Mr Mohammed Nii Adjei Sowah as the new Chief Executive of the assembly.

Mr Sowah, who was nominated by the President, was confirmed after all the 109 assembly members voted for him.

He was immediately sworn into office by the Presiding Member, Mr Tandoh Aboagye, to begin his tenure of office.

Environmental challenges

Mr Sowah, in his victory speech, promised to deal effectively with the issues of poor sanitation, flooding and poor planning in the metropolis.

“I will work and support the vision of the President to contribute to national development,” he said.

In a brief address, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mr Ishmael Ashitey, urged the assembly members to give the new chief executive all the necessary support to deliver on his mandate.

Support

Mr Ashitey said he believed the new chief executive would build on the foundation of his predecessors and contribute positively to the development of Accra, especially in dealing with sanitation and other environmental problems confronting the capital city, adding: “I believe the new chief executive will contribute to changing Accra for the better.”

For his part, the Chairman of the Sanitation and Environment sub-Community of the AMA and Assembly Member for the Asylum Down North Ridge Electoral Area, Mr Francis Ebo Mensah, said he believed the new chief executive would work hard to achieve results.

“We are behind him to move Accra forward; expect something better from the AMA,’’ he said.
