Brits go naked for World Naked Gardening Day

Scores of keen gardeners have taken selfies of themselves surrounded by greenery as they pose in their gardens alongside spades, shovels and other garden tools.

2017 marks the 13th year of the event, which was created in 2005 to urge people to “move towards a healthy sense of both body acceptance and our relation to the natural environment”.

Organisers said gardening naked “is not only a simple joy, it reminds us – even if only for those few sun kissed minutes – that we can be honest with who we are as humans and as part of this planet”.

On Twitter people in London and across the UK shared photos of themselves while others cracked jokes and warned people to stay indoors.

Kings College London fellow, Sally Marlow said: “Just did my window boxes in my inner London Street but chickened out of nudity – would not be fair to neighbours.”

Londoners who did pose in the nude were lucky as temperatures today were forecast at around 16C, higher than they have been this week, and the rain looked set to hold off.
