The Trust Hospital, in partnership with NDK Financial Services, has launched Breast Cancer Awareness campaign programme dubbed “The Pink October.”

The two organisations, as part of the campaign, are embarking on a month-long education of women on the nature, causes, risk factors, diagnosis, management and prevention as well as screening and early detection measures against breast cancer.

Screening exercise

They have targeted to screen about 5,000 women before the end of the campaign.

In an interview, the Doctor in charge of the hospital’s Well Woman Clinic, Dr Victoria Partey Newman, said the facility had assisted women, especially breast cancer patients, over the years.

She, therefore, encouraged women to participate in the breast cancer screening process to be sure they were free from the disease.

She called on other corporate organisations to emulate the example of NDK Financial Services in supporting the awareness campaign on breast cancer.

Women health

At the launch of the campaign, the Deputy Managing Director, NDK Financial Services, Mrs Kuorkor Ayisa, said the partnership would put more emphasis on women’s health.

She said according to the World Health Organisation, despite the number of successes chalked up over the past few decades, women still faced many health challenges and it was their duty to address some of them.

The deputy director said breast cancer was one of the two most common cancers affecting women and that early detection was key to keeping women alive and healthy.

“Latest global figure, according the World Health Organisation, shows that around half a million women die from breast cancer each year,” she added.

Mrs Ayisa said the vast majority of these deaths occur in low and middle-income countries, where screening and prevention were almost nonexistent.

She said it was for this reason that their management did not hesitate “to bear the full cost, when the Trust Hospital approached us.”

Preventive care

The General Manager of Trust Hospital, Dr Darius Osei, commended the organisers of the launch for putting the project together.

He said the focus of the hospital had always been preventive care, which they intended to pursue.

“We owe it a duty to our staff and clients to create the needed awareness in the communities we operate in,” he said.

Dr Osei also commended the management of NDK Financial Services for their partnership to create awareness of the dangers of breast cancer among women.
