The exercise, which is an annual event, was organised by the Regional branch of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility Programme (CSR).

The exercise was also used to assist some of the girls to renew and acquire new National Health Insurance identity cards.

The exercise

Commenting on the exercise, the Regional Director of the NHIA, Mr Sebastian Alagpulinsa, stated that his outfit was expected to mobilise about 100 pints of blood for the hospital’s blood bank, and was optimistic that judging from the enthusiasm displayed by the girls, the target might be exceeded at the end of the exercise.

The Head of Blood Mobilisation of the Regional Hospital, Madam Ajaratu Issah, observed that students were considered to be in the low risk donor group and that was why the exercise at BOGISS was commendable.

 Gratitude

She expressed gratitude to senior high school students in the region for supporting efforts to replenish the blood bank of the regional hospital and hoped that at the end of the exercise, about 200 units of blood would be mobilised for the hospital's blood bank.

Madam Issah used the occasion to advise relatives of pregnant women to donate at least two units of blood before delivery.

The Assistant Headmistress in charge of Administration of BOGISS, Madam Elizabeth Zinye, expressed gratitude to the authorities of the NHIA for choosing the school to be part of the exercise which would ultimately help save lives at the hospital.

Some of the girls who donated blood noted that the exercise would enable them to always lead healthy lives. They equally observed that the exercise afforded them the opportunity to know their current health status.
