Stick to prescribed uniforms for healthcare training

The Head of Monitoring and Evaluation at the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI), Mr Christian Agordah, has cautioned healthcare institutions to comply strictly with the prescribed uniform for the healthcare programme.

He warned them to avoid the temptation of deceiving prospective healthcare trainees that they were offering nursing, using the uniform of nurses and for that matter expecting to become nurses after graduation.

“If this comes to our notice, NVTI will be compelled to withdraw the accreditation of the healthcare programme,” he said.

Mr Agordah was speaking at the seventh graduation and matriculation ceremony of the MAB Health Training Institute in Accra.

He reiterated the need for individuals to engage healthcare graduates to take care of children, the aged and the disabled in their homes, saying such graduates had the orientation of care which contributed to the effective and efficient healthcare delivery system in the country.

“As a nation, we cannot play down the critical role of the care aspect of health delivery system, which is very necessary in the healing process of patients. Some sicknesses do not necessarily need medication, but just care and attention because some are just psychological,” he said.

Graduates

In all, 39 students graduated from the institute with Healthcare Nursing Certificates awarded by the NVTI.

The Chief Executive of MAB Group of Companies, Dr Jacob Mensah Akuamoah-Boateng, urged the graduates to build up self-discipline, remain focused, pray and work hard to achieve their aims and objectives.

“Know that failure abounds where discipline and positive attitude are absent. Keep in mind that there is no limit to what you can achieve. Keep soaring to greater heights to achieve your desired dreams,” he added.

He announced that the institute would offer a new programme in Medicine Counter Assistants (MCA) from the last quarter of the year.

“A new ultramodern four-storey building is under construction, whose third and fourth floors will accommodate all the new programmes we are planning to start,” he said.

Matriculation

With the graduation also came 51 students who matriculated for the MAB Health Training Institute to pursue Healthcare Nursing Certificates One and Two, as well as MCA/Pharmacy Assistantship.

The Principal of the Institute, Mrs Rose Gomashie, urged matriculants to show enthusiasm about the course they had chosen to pursue.
