Lexta Ghana teams up with Medical Women Association to combat cervical cancer

Lexta Ghana Limited (LGL), the producer and supplier of Yazz products and Hooch Foods in Ghana in collaboration with the Medical Women Association of Ghana on Friday (February 17, 2017) held a cervical cancer seminar at the St Mary's Senior High School in Accra.

The campaign will visit selected Senior High Schools (SHS’) in all ten regions of the country with seasoned health professionals including dentists, gynecologists and general health practitioners to educate and engage the students.

The seminar is part of a project dubbed: Lexta ‘Teen Care’ Campaign which focuses on cervical cancer and feminine hygiene, oral care as well as clean-up competitions.

According to Efua Idan Osam of Lexta Ghana, the objective of Lexta Teen Care is to teach students how to properly manage their hygiene needs by cultivating good personal and general hygiene habits in their adolescent years which is a crucial phase in their development.

The President for Medical Women Association of Ghana, Dr Naa Sodzi-Tettey who was the resource person for the ocassion held and interactive session with the young ladies of the school.

Dr Sodzi-Tettey said the country loses over 1,500 women annually to cervical cancer with over 3,000 being diagnosed with the debilitating cancer at its complicated stage when it is impossible to cure.

She added that fatal cases of cervical cancer were on the decline in the developed world because they were armed with the necessary knowledge which aids in detection of the disease at an early stage hence the need for such programmes.

Dr Sodzi-Tettey told the students about the various forms of screening for cervical cancer including the pap smear test, entreating them to get tested at a certain point in their lives.

There were also give-aways of Lexta Ghana Limited branded items including exercise books which were handed to the students during the Question and Answer segment of the programme.

In attendance at the programme were officials of Lexta Ghana Limited including the Head of Sales and Marketing, Seth Ntiamoah-Asare and the Human Resource Manager, Madame Ohenewa Osei.

The next stop for the Lexta Teen Care is the Armed Forces Senior High School on February 23 and Presbyterian Boys Senior High School, Legon on February 25.
