“There are many series of tests that substances must be subjected to before a claim of cure can be made. The Ghana AIDS Commission along with the Ministry of Health and the Food and Drugs Authority will be most proud to support the announcement of any such finding”, she added.

The Director General made the statement in a speech read on her behalf by the Technical Director of the Commission in the Ashanti Region, Mrs Olivia Graham, at Obogu in the Asante Akim South of the Ashanti Region.

She was speaking at this year’s World Aids Day which was on the theme “90-90-90: Providing Comprehensive Services for all Towards an HIV-Free Generation”.

It was attended by some selected groups within the region and some junior and senior high schools.

Dr El-Adas said every researcher must be astute and stay within the ethics of research rather than sensationalism and urged people living with the disease to continue to stay on the drugs prescribed by their care givers.

She announced that the Commission on Human Right and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) and the law enforcement agencies were playing key roles in addressing the Human rights needs of PLHIV and key populations.

She described elimination of stigma and discrimination as paramount to the commission and urged PLHIV not to hesitate to report any abuse as soon as it occurred and assured them that they would be assisted.

Dr El-Adas commended the government the legislature for the progress made with the new Ghana AIDS Commission bill which will receive Presidential assent before close of this year.

Mr Kofi Dwumor-Asubonteng, the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Director, who spoke on behalf of the Regional Minister, Mr John Alexander Ackon, advised the students to realise that they were the future leaders and not to be swayed by any politician to engage in acts of violence in the upcoming elections.

He also urged them to refrain from premarital and unprotected sex and also educate their families about the need to refrain from stigmatising people with HIV.
