Computers, motorbikes for three districts under PROMISE project

Three district health directorates in the beneficiary areas of the Promoting, Maternal, Newborn, Infant and Child Sustainable Health Efforts (PROMISE) project in the Northern Region have received 45 computers and 16 motorbikes estimated at the cost of GH¢374,862.32.

They are the Savelugu Municipality,the Saboba and the Nanumba North district health directorates,while the items are to enhance healthcare, especially between women and children.

The computers comprising 18 laptops and 25 desktops are to enhance data collection and storage in health facilities in the beneficiary areas, while the motorbikes are to improve outreach services to hard-to-reach communities. 

The items were procured with support from the Global Affairs of Canada under the CCFC’s PROMISE project.

Four-year project

The four-year project, which is being undertaken by the Christian Children’s Fund of Canada (CCFC) with the Tuma Kavi Development Association, the Assemblies of God Relief and Development Services (AGREDS) and the health directorates and district assemblies of the three beneficiary districts as the implementing partners, seeks to contribute to the reduction in maternal and child mortality in the Northern Region by improving delivery of essential health services to mothers, pregnant women, newborns and children under five years.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the Country Director of the CCFC, Mr George Baiden said the gesture was to improve healthcare in the beneficiary areas of the PROMISE project.

He urged the beneficiaries to take good care of the items to enhance its lifespan and use it for the purposes they were donated.

The PROMISE Project Manager, Ms Esenam Kavi said the project was to ensure reduction in maternal and child mortality in the Northern Region which was expected to directly and indirectly impart the lives of over 100,000 beneficiaries including children, women and men.

She added that the project would also improve healthcare in nine health facilities in the three beneficiary districts.

The Northern Regional Deputy Director of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Mr Jeremiah Tiimob, who received the items on behalf of the regional health directorate and the beneficiaries, thanked the CCFC for the support towards the reduction of maternal and child mortality in the region.

He said reducing maternal and child mortality in the region still remained a challenge, adding that the region recorded 93 institutional maternal deaths in 2015  but it increased to 133 in 2016. He expressed the hope that the gesture would go a long way to improve maternal and child health in the region.
