ASA Microfinance customers get free health screening

Over 300 female customers of the Suame branch of ASA Microfinance in Kumasi, including their children, have undergone a free health screening exercise.

The gesture which formed part of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) was supported by Maranatha Health Services, a private health centre at Kwadaso, also in Kumasi.

Significance

Briefing the media after the exercise, the Ashanti Regional Manager of ASA, Mr Muhammad Majad Ali Khan, said 95 per cent of their customers were women who were mostly traders, hence the gesture to “make them healthy in order to stay in business”.

He announced that an education scholarship for children of customers would be rolled out by the bank by the end of 2017.

The manager urged customers to continue to save with the bank to enable them to benefit from more packages, including loans to expand their businesses.

According to him, ASA currently had 17 branches and 91 business centres across the country, adding that 20 more outlets would be opened by the end of the year.

Advice

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Maranatha Health Services, Mrs Agatha Amoateng-Boahen, advised the people to pay more attention to their health by regularly visiting health centres instead of devoting all their time to their businesses.

She said when one visited health centres often, diseases could be detected early for treatment.

Mrs Amoateng-Boahen, who is also the immediate past National Vice-President of the Ghana Registered Midwives Association (GRMA), further entreated the public to always tidy their surroundings and live “responsible and healthy lives”.
