Zoomlion donates to Save a Child, Save a Mother project

Zoomlion Foundation has presented a cheque for GH¢50,000 to the First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, in support of the ‘Save a Child, Save a Mother’ project her foundation is undertaking.

The Rebecca Akufo-Addo Foundation is currently raising GH¢10 million towards the completion of a maternity block for the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in the Ashanti Region.

The construction of the maternity block started more than three decades ago, but came to a standstill because of the lack of funds.

As a result, pregnant women who visit the unit are faced with challenges that lead to loss of lives.

A recent documentary by an Accra-based radio station, JOY FM, highlighted the plight of pregnant women during deliveries.

As a result, the first lady’s foundation decided to take over the project and raise the needed resources for the completion of the maternity block.

Presentation

The presentation of the money was done by the management of Jospong Group of Companies, the firm that established the Zoomlion Foundation.

At a short ceremony at the first lady’s office in Accra yesterday, the Communications Director of Jospong Group of Companies, Mrs Sophia Lissah, said the gesture formed part of the company’s corporate social responsibility.

“The Zoomlion Foundation was established to help address issues that affect the lives of the ordinary Ghanaian. We believe that anything towards the welfare of mothers deserves support,” she said.

Mrs Lissah said the company would look for other avenues to contribute towards the project and to also help address some of the development challenges affecting the country.

Commendation

Mrs Akufo-Addo expressed her gratitude to the management of Jospong Group of Companies for the support.

She said the project, which began a few weeks ago, would be completed in the next three months.

“So far, work on the project is taking shape and we believe in the next three months, it should be ready,” Mrs Akufo-Addo stated.
