It, therefore, said it would not relent in its efforts in keeping Ghana “clean, green and healthy”

A statement issued by the Head of Communication of the Jospong Group of Companies, the parent company of Zoomlion, Mrs Sophia Lissah, in Accra yesterday, said Zoomlion had had a valid and binding agreement with governments since 2006 under the sanitation module and that covenant had not been terminated.

The company was reacting to media reports in respect of its contract with the government which it said were inaccurate and calculated to damage its hard-won reputation and that of its shareholders.

Recent media reports have suggested that a value-for-money committee formed by the government has recommended the cancellation of the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA) modules, affecting also Zoomlion’s sanitation modules.

The statement said by its agreement with the government, Zoomlion was expected to provide waste management and related services to the entire metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (MMDA), adding, “Zoomlion today is the biggest waste management company in the area of waste management, recycling, composting, beach cleaning, afforestation, beautification and other integrated waste management solutions.”

It said Zoomlion  had provided dedicated service to the country in accordance with the terms of the agreement for which there had been arrears in payment since 2006.

It said the claims for payment for the arrears were being subjected to audit verification as per government regulation and, therefore, it was a matter of deep regret that the company should  be subjected to partisan vilification.

Job Creation

“We would want to state further that Zoomlion has for the past ten years been at the forefront of driving impactful waste management delivery to this country. Through this, over two hundred thousand (200,000) jobs have been created in this country.

“Additionally, the company has attained both national and international recognition for its quality service delivery in the solid waste management and sanitation industry. We have helped in reducing the unemployment rate and curbing serious health conditions in this country including cholera.

“Zoomlion’s operations and excellent performance have won contracts across five different African countries. The company as a good corporate citizen continues to comply with all regulations governing corporate institutions in Ghana and beyond,” the statement added.

It said Zoomlion had initiated numerous and significant social interventions in the area of waste management, recycling, composting, beach cleaning, afforestation, beautification and other integrated waste management solutions.
