Zoomkids, a sanitation club in some basic schools across the country, used the 60th Independence Day parade to encourage Ghanaians to take sanitation seriously.

This year, Zoomkids participated in the Independence Day parades in the Greater Accra, Northern, Eastern and Upper East regions.

In the Greater Accra Region, members of the club took part in the march past at the Ga East Municipality at Abokobi.

The children raised placards with various inscriptions to convey messages on sanitation.

Some of the placards read, “Cleanliness is next to Godliness”, “Let’s prevent malaria”, “Don’t litter your environment” and “Recycle your waste.”

Significantly, the environment occupied space in President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s Independence speech.

About the club

The activities of the club are geared towards sanitation improvement in schools and communities.

Prior to the ‘Ghana 60 years on’ celebration, Zoomkids participated in quizzes, community sensitisation floats, clean-up activities and hand-washing education programmes, all aimed at creating a sense of urgency in the populace to turn around the sanitation situation in the country.
