She blamed some parents for shirking their responsibilities and leaving their children to go wayward, sometimes resulting in teenage pregnancy among other social vices.

At a durbar at Manso-Kaniago to sensitise the people to the need to take a keen interest in family planning, she advised Ghanaians to take it seriously since its benefits were enormous, stressing that, “a properly planned family leads to  permanent peace of mind, healthy life and the promotion of quality life.”

Family planning

She enumerated some of the advantages of family planning to include spacing of child birth, proper planning of family, healthy growth of both mother and children and permanent peace of mind.

The programme was organised by the Serwaa Ampem Foundation for Children under the auspices of the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Charity Foundation, in collaboration with Manso-Kaniago Traditional Council and Marie Stokes International, a family planning and sexual reproductive health non-governmental organisation (NGO).

In attendance at the durbar were the chiefs and people of Subinso, Kwabenaso and people from other surrounding communities.

A priest of the Anglican Church, Rev. Father Kenneth Korsah, called for male involvement in family planning to promote development.

Male involvement

He appealed to men not to leave the issue of family planning to only women since the two could plan better to achieve good results.

The Odikro of Kwabenaso, Nana Tabi Gyansah, was full of praise for the Asantehene and his wife for the numerous educational and health programmes they were promoting in the region and in the country to better the lot of the people.

He pledged support for initiatives organised by Otumfuo and appealed for more health education in the rural areas to improve their lives.

A medical team from the Marie Stokes International used the occasion to educate the gathering on the various family planning methods and urged them to patronise family planning products from the right sources or from the appropriate centres to avoid health challenges.

The team mounted a clinic in the community to promote the usage of the various family planning products such as the short, medium and long-term methods, depending on the needs of the family.
