Dubbed: “The 2016 Annual South African Tourism West Africa Roadshow,” the event is to bring together players in the travel and tourism industry to discuss how best they can engage operators in West Africa and South Africa to promote the booming tourism business in South Africa.

The Kumasi workshop would be replicated at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel in Accra, to be followed by similar events in the Nigerian cities of Lagos, Port Harcourt and Abuja very soon.

The programme is being hosted in partnership with the Tour Operators Union of Ghana (TOUGHA), Ghana Association of Travel and Tour Agency (GATTA) and the National Association of Nigerian Travel Agency (NANTA).

According to the South African Tourism’s Regional Manager for West Africa, Mr Lehlohonolo Pitso, the annual roadshow is an important cultural exchange initiative to encourage Intra-African travel and tourism.

“West Africa is an incredibly important and valuable market region for our destination,” he said.

He said the entire African continent remained a significant strategic importance to South Africa and for which reason the country consistently recorded excellent tourist arrival growth from all key African markets.

South African Tourism made the decision in 2011 to invest R218 million in the African markets.

The South African delegation, which included the South African Regional Director for Africa, Madam Evelyn Mahlaba, was taken on a tour around Kumasi and took the opportunity to visit the Manhyia Palace.
