Workshop on IHRMP ends

A two-day training workshop for chief executive officers and human resource directors has been organised by the Institute of Human Resource Management Practitioners, Ghana (IHRMP) in collaboration with Public Services Commission.

On the theme “The role of Chief Executive Officers in Human Resource Management”, the workshop was sponsored by the French Embassy, through the France-Ghana Cooperation.

In attendance were the Chairman and Commissioners of the Public Services Commission (PSC), CEOs, HR Directors in the Public Services.

 In her welcome address, the Chairperson of the PSC, Mrs Bridget Katsriku said “As you are already aware, the quality of human resources is critical to the growth and sustainability of any organization and the Public Service is no exception.”

She said the quality of the human resource in public service contributes to the determination of the pace of development of any country. Citing example she said Singapore, Korea and other countries of the East, have few or no natural resources except the human resource.

The Chairperson added stakeholders must consider continuous learning, professional skills development and upgrading as critical for all categories of staff of the public service.

The Executive Director of IHRMP, Mr Ebenezer Agbettor explained that IHRMP has played various roles at different times in Public Service Commission’s effort to bring professionalism in the entire operations of the Public Sector and in particular the HR Function that was perceived as playing a pivotal role in all these efforts”.

According to him, such efforts by the PSC has now led to the commencement of the Institute running its professional certification programme for the Ghana Civil Service.
