The suspect, Beauty Sabey, a housewife and lactating mother, is said to have stabbed her husband, Francis Anagli, with a kitchen knife on June 2, 2014 after a misunderstanding at Tsokome Bortianor, near Weija.

The Weija Police arrested Sabey following distress calls from some neighbours who heard the man’s loud screams and rushed to the scene to see him in a pool of blood.

Fight over

Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police Mrs Affia Tenge, said the incident happened during a fight over house-keeping money.

She said investigations had established that Beauty and Anagli had been married for close to four years and had two children, a four-year-old and a six-month-old baby.

Beauty has an eight-year-old son who also lived with the family in their rented apartment at Tsokome Bortianor.

Mrs Tenge said Sabey told the police during interrogation that her husband had been unemployed for some months now.

The family, she said, had, therefore, been experiencing financial problems “as, according to Beauty, her husband has not been giving her house-keeping ..”

On that fateful day, Anagli was said to have gone out and returned home to confront his wife as to why she had confided in his friends that he was not performing his responsibilities as a husband by not giving her house-keeping money.

When Sabey denied, Mrs Tenge said, the two engaged in a fight outside the compound of their house which attracted the attention of some neighbours who tried to separate them.

After they had been separated, Anagli went to take his bath and prepared to go out of the house.

“But the wife said when he was leaving the house, she was in the kitchen where she was cutting onions. The man came to the kitchen to hit her and she also stabbed him with the knife she was using,” Mrs Tenge said.

When the man shouted for help, neighbours who had heard his cries went to his aid.

The neighbours found cuts on Anagli’s ribs and his attire was soaked in blood. Initial investigations showed that Anagli might have been stabbed two times in the ribs.

With the help of the neighbours, Anagli was taken to a hospital near Weija.

She said at the hospital, medical officers said his condition was critical and referred him to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body of Anagli has since been deposited at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital morgue for autopsy.
