A release issued in Accra yesterday and signed by the outgoing Public Affairs Officer of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of Police, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Joseph B. Dankwah, said the suspect was alleged to have led a group of men to assault a police officer in early January at the seat of government.

The suspect, aged 45, is dark in complexion and hails from Tamale in the Northern Region.

He said Jabil was believed to be hiding in either Accra, Kumasi or Tamale, and therefore appealed to anyone with information that would lead to his arrest to contact the CID headquarters on the following telephone numbers: 0240666594, 0277311866 or report to the nearest police station.

Incident

Following the attack on the police officer by unknown assailants at the Flagstaff House in Accra, the Police Administration tasked the CID to investigate the alleged assault and bring the perpetrators to book.

The incident occurred early January, during President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s first day in office.

Some heavily built civilians, believed to be members of the ‘Invisible Forces,’ a vigilante group associated with the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), were captured in a video attacking a police officer at the Flagstaff House.

The video, which went viral on social media, revealed how members of the vigilante group chased the officer, ASP Nanka Bruce, who had to seek refuge in a police vehicle.

The officer, believed to be one of the guards at the Flagstaff House during former President John Mahama’s administration, was seen moving out of the Flagstaff House. He was later stopped by an armed military officer and subsequently brutalised and forced out of his car by his assailants, despite attempts by some senior police officers to restore order.

The heavily built men pushed and shoved the uniformed police officer until a few military men went to the scene to salvage the situation.

Revelation

The National Organiser of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Kofi Adams, made the revelation when he made reference to the said incident during a radio interview.

“You have these people [Invisible Forces] moving not just to toll booths and other places but even to the Flagstaff House, beat up uniformed persons and tear up their clothes and then claim they [Invisible forces] are in charge,” he had claimed.
