“We place priority on providing opportunities to local businesses,” a General Manager at WAPCo, Mr Mike O. Enendu, said, while opening a forum for more than 120 vendors of WAPCo in Accra yesterday.

The forum, the second of its kind, was aimed at providing an opportunity for WAPCo and its vendors to interact, review performances, achievements and challenges in the supply chain.

It also served as an avenue for the exchange of feedback to ensure greater collaboration between WAPCo and the vendors for their mutual benefit.

According to Mr Enendu, “the forum shall provide the needed opportunity to develop competencies, capabilities and competitiveness of suppliers and contractors so that you are able to compete for businesses both in WAPCo and the larger oil and gas sector.’’

 Vendors’ contribution

Mr Enendu said the vendors were currently contributing more than 67,000 man hours to cushion WAPCo’s operation every month.

He said WAPCo had achieved outstanding results on issues of safety with their assistance vendors.

Mr Enendu noted that it was important for interactions between WAPCo and its vendors to be strengthened.

Topics discussed

Some Managers of WAPCo took the vendors through the dos and don’ts in contracts and procurement, health and safety, among other topics.

They  were also lectured on how to work to maximise their output and given the opportunity to seek clarification on issues affecting their operations.
