He urged parents to ensure their children remained their best friends so they could discuss issues pertaining to their welfare and social needs with them instead of being fed with wrong information from their friends.

Nana Kofi Antwi made the remarks at the fifth edition of the annual Guidance and Counselling programme organised by the Odumase Traditional Authority at Odumase in the Asante Akim Central Municipality in the Ashanti Region to sensitise parents and students to the need to take education seriously.

The programme, which was on the theme “Academic and Carrier Guidance; a source of information and inspiration for a better future for the child,” was attended by more than 600 second-year students of junior high schools (JHSs) in the Odumase community.

Objective

The counselling session was aimed at sensitising the students to take keen interest in their education to get a brighter future and fulfil their future dreams.

It was also aimed at providing them with the right information as a guide for their academic and educational endeavours, as well as help their parents take rightful decisions that would impact positively on the future career prospects of their children.

This year’s event was part of activities marking the 10th anniversary of the enstoolment of the Odumasehene and the 35th anniversary of the elevation of the Odumase Stool to the Nifa Division of Juaben-Asante.

Nana Kofi Antwi advised parents to give attention to the education of their children, since that was the best legacy they could bequeath to them.

He explained that with good education, the children would be equipped with the right skills that would propel them for better jobs.

He said with good guidance and counselling, the children could avoid certain mistakes which could affect their lives for life, and urged all to contribute their quota towards the proper training and upbringing of the students.

He commended the various stakeholders for their role in the organisation of the forum and pledged to continue supporting the programme for the benefit of the children of all parents in the area and the nation as a whole.

The Municipal Director of Education for Asante Akim Central, Mr Andrews K. Essumang, in an address read on his behalf, said the attainment of quality education was the responsibility of all stakeholders, and appealed to parents to provide their children with their educational and other social needs to help them concentrate on their studies.
