Unidentified armed men kill policeman
A policeman was killed at dawn yesterday by a group of unidentified armed young men on the premises of a water storage manufacturing company on the Spintex Road in Accra.

The 29-year-old policeman, Constable Beard Atebiya Ayine, with service number 47537, who was attached to the National Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) Unit at the Ghana Police Service Headquarters, was on guard duties.
He was said to have been wounded fatally on the upper part of his belly.

According to eyewitnesses, the armed men who were all masked, took away the AK 47 assault rifle of the policeman.
Another private security person, whose name has been withheld by the police, was also inflicted with severe machete wounds on his hands and head.
While the private security man who is in a critical condition is currently receiving medical attention at the Police Hospital in Accra, the body of Constable Ayine has been deposited at the morgue at the same hospital.
The exact number of the perpetrators has not yet been established by the police, since eyewitnesses gave conflicting accounts.
While some of the eyewitnesses claimed that the armed men were eight, others said they were five.
Some private security personnel at the company said they heard a sudden noise which was followed by gunshots.
They said the private security man was the first to be attacked by the armed men, followed by the policeman.
Distress call
Confirming the incident to the Daily Graphic, the Accra Regional Police Command Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mrs Affia Tenge, said the police received a distress call at about 1:30a.m. yesterday that some unidentified armed young men had attacked a policeman at his duty point on the Spintex Road.
She said when the police went to the scene, they found the policeman in a pool of blood and in an unstable condition, while the private security man had been slashed in the head and hands.
Both victims, she said, were taken to the Police Hospital, but the policeman was pronounced dead.
The police, she said, had since launched investigations into the incident.
She, therefore, called on the public to voluntarily offer information that would lead to the arrest of the perpetrators “who are currently armed with the deadly weapon and a threat to society.”
The deceased passed out of the Ghana Police Training School in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, in 2012, and served in the Northern Region before he was posted to the SWAT Unit at the Ghana Police Service headquarters.
