UDS honours late Sagnarigu Naa
The University for Development Studies (UDS) has named its Academic Board Chamber Block after the late Sagnarigu Naa, Dr Andani Andan.

The late Dr Andani Andan, who was also a medical doctor, was honoured for his immense contribution towards the development of the university.
Speaking at the ceremony at the central administration of the university in Tamale, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Haruna Yakubu, said the honour was in recognition of the role played by the late Sagnarigu Naa in the establishment of the Tamale campus of the UDS.
Unveiling of plaque
A plaque, bearing the name: “Sagnarigu Naa Dr Andani Andan Academic Board Chamber” was unveiled to mark the ceremony.
Prof. Yakubu said the late chief was not only instrumental in allocating the piece of land for the construction of the university, but also facilitated the building of the Medical School, stressing that that explained why it was important for the Academic Board, which according to him was the academic, principal policy making and advisory body on all matters affecting the university’s teaching and research, to be named after the late chief.
He said the Academic Board helped provide a forum to promote free and open debate and information flow on a wide range of issues affecting research and higher education.
Support for tertiary education
Professor Haruna Yakubu said the government alone could not bear the cost of supporting tertiary education, hence the need for other stakeholders to support the university to achieve its aim of bringing sustainable development to society.
The current Sagnarigu Naa, Yakubu Abdulai, who is also a former Ambassador to Senegal, said the honouring of his late brother would go a long way to “strengthen the relationship between UDS and the Sagnarigu Traditional Area.”
He urged the university authorities to consider employing qualified persons of the traditional area for the sacrifices made in donating their farmlands to the school.
