A special operation by the Weija Divisional Police Command has led to the arrest of two persons suspected to be behind land guard and robbery activities within the Denkyira community in Accra.

The suspects are Ibrahim Addo, 28, a mason, and Sulemana Muniru, 28, a plumber.

While Addo was arrested on a motorbike while he was in possession of a pistol with three rounds of ammunition, Muniru was arrested with one pump action gun loaded with three rounds of cartridges and dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

Suspects stopped

Briefing journalists in Accra, the Accra Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Osabarima Oware Asare Pinkro III, said as part of a special operation to fight crime in the area, a team of policemen went on patrol in the area.

He said during the patrol, the team spotted Addo riding a motorbike. He was stopped as part of the routine for the exercise and when he was searched, the police found the weapon on him, leading to his arrest.

He said a few hours later, the team saw Muniru, who was also on a motorbike, but when he was stopped, he sped off.

The police, Osabarima Pinkro said, gave Muniru a chase and when they finally arrested him, they found the loaded pump action gun in his possession.

He said during a search in Muniru’s house later, the police found a quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

Preliminary investigations following the arrest of the suspect, according to the police commander, established that the two suspects had been involved in a number of robbery and land guard activities recorded in recent times at Denkyira and its surrounding areas.
