Two grabbed for stealing TV sets

An Accra Magistrate’s Court has remanded two men, Agbey Dotse, 23, and Amos Drah, 22, in custody for allegedly stealing three 50-inch LED television sets at Tudu in Accra. Dotse and Drah were charged with two counts, conspiracy to commit crime and possession of stolen items, when they appeared before the court, presided over by Mr Isaac Addo.

They pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Presenting the facts of the case to the court, Sergeant Lois Konadu said on February 13, 2017 around 6: 15 a.m., policemen who were on patrol duty at Accra Central spotted Dotse and Drah removing the three television sets from a vehicle at Tudu.

According to Sgt Konadu, the police approached them and asked them to produce the documents covering the television but they couldn’t produce any.

Sgt Konadu said while the policemen were interrogating Dotse and Drah, the third accused person who was with the two took to his heels.

The police later realised the items were stolen.

Dotse and Drah were, therefore, arrested and remanded in custody. The third accused person is at large.

In their caution statement, they both said the televisions were given to them by a dealer to sell, but they could not lead the police to the dealer.

Hearing continues.
