Isaac Kweku Nketia, alias ‘who dey there’, and Richard Darko, a.k.a ‘Money’, were charged on two counts of murder and robbery.

Their pleas were not taken when they appeared before the court, presided over by Mr James Kojo Botah.

The  docket on the case is to be  forwarded to the Attorney-General’s  Department  for advice.

The facts of the case as presented by  the Prosecutor, Chief Insp. (C/I) Gregory Yeboah, were that the deceased, General Constable Bernard Atebiya Ayine, was  stationed at the National SWAT Unit, Headquarters.

C/I Yeboah said on October 2, 2016 at 5:30 p.m., Ayine was on night duty at the premises of the Polytank Company at  Baatsonaa, Accra.

He said the next day at about  1:45 a.m., the Baatsonaa Police team received a distress call that a gang of armed masked men with pump action guns and machetes had entered the premise, and  had shot the policeman, killing him instantly.

According to prosecution, a  private security man, now a witness in the case, Dogbe Nukunu, who was also present at the time, was slashed with a machete during the incident and was rushed to the 37 Military Hospital  for treatment.

Prosecutor Yeboah said the armed robbers took the AK47 assault rifle belonging to Ayine and bolted.

He said Nketia deserted his post for three days without any tangible reason and resurfaced after the incident.

During interrogation, Nketia said he slept in the room of one  Darko, who was later arrested, but Darko denied sleeping  in the same room  with Nketia at the time of the incident.

The prosecutor said they were both arrested and presented to the court to assist with  investigations.
