Two assault workers of water company over payment of bills
Two persons who allegedly attacked workers of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) pleaded not guilty and were granted bail by the Laterbiokorshie District Magistrate’s Court in Accra last Friday.

The accused persons, Mr Enoch Odartey Lamptey (56), a farmer, and Mr Patrick Brown (52), a computer technician, were both charged with assaulting workers of the company who were on official duty.
The workers, Mr Samuel Adu and Mr Felix Amoah, together with their supervisors, were engaged in a revenue mobilisation exercise at the residences of the accused on June 8, 2016 when the incident happened.
The court, presided over by His Worship Kenneth Okyere Aboagye, granted the accused persons bail with surety of GH¢10,000 each.
Prosecution
The prosecutor, Sergeant John Baidoo of the Korle Bu Police Station, told the court that the first complainant (Mr Adu) was assaulted by Mr Lamptey at his residence at Kamara, a suburb of Mamprobi in Accra.
According to him, Mr Adu asked Mr Lamptey to settle his bills from January to May 2016, otherwise his pipeline would be disconnected.
Angered by Mr Adu’s request, Sergeant Baidoo said, the accused hurled insults at the complainant and justified his non-payment of the bills with erratic supply of water.
Subsequently, he said, Mr Lamptey, together with his two children, pounced on Mr Adu when he attempted to disconnect the pipeline.
Later, Sergeant Baidoo said, Mr Lamptey was arrested and taken to court.
The prosecutor told the court that the second accused, Mr Brown, assaulted Mr Amoah when he tried to disconnect his pipeline. Both cases were adjourned to July 15.
In a related development, the Communication Manager of the GWCL, Nana Yaw Barima Barnie, has cautioned the public against molesting employees of the GWCL on duty, and said anyone caught in that act would face the law.
