They are Ekow Korsah, 23, a foreman, and Michael Mensah, 22, a labourer, both workers of Ruser Investment, a Chinese engineering company in Accra.

The name of the victim, a 50-year-old engineer, has been given by the police as Ren Guang Fa.

He was said to have been attacked by Korsah and Mensah who allegedly went to his house in the wee hours of April 12, 2017.

The attackers were said to have asked the victim to allow them to fetch water from his water reservoir but ended up beating him and stabbing him to death.

Police briefing

Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Baatsona Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent of Police Mr Felix Kwasi Cosmos, said the victim was found dead in a pool of blood in his bathroom in his house, near the C&J Hospital Community 16, Sakumono.

He said preliminary investigations by the police revealed that the room of the deceased had also been ransacked and some items, including a Huawei P.8 smartphone, a Lenovo desktop computer and some personal effects of the victim, had been stolen.

Employers of the victim, Mr Cosmos said, told the police that Ren had left the workplace  around 8:30p.m. on April 12, 2016, but his body was found the next morning at about 7:30 a.m. in his room with bruises on both shoulders.

He said after assessing the body, the police also found deep cuts on the left wrist of the victim, leading to the suspicion of a struggle between the assailants and the victim.

Mr Cosmos said three days later, the police arrested Korsah (based on intelligence), but he initially denied the offence. However, a search in his house at Lashibi by the police linked him to the murder, when the police found the Huawei smartphone of the victim in his possession.

Korsah is said to have broken down in tears and admitted the offence and subsequently mentioned Mensah as his accomplice.

After four days of a manhunt, Mr Cosmos said the police arrested Mensah at his hideout at Teshie.

Mensah is said to have corroborated the statements given by Korsah to the police and he later led investigators to his hometown at Ekumfi Akra in the Central Region where the Lenovo desktop computer and a bag containing the personal effects of the victim were retrieved.

The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue pending autopsy.
