Turkey offers to collaborate with Local Government Ministry

Turkey has offered to donate 30 high capacity buses to support the operations of municipalities and agencies under the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.

Additionally, selected artisans from the Department of Parks and Gardens will be sent to Turkey to undertake a training programme aimed at equipping them with relevant knowledge.

The Turkish Ambassador to Ghana, Ms Nesrin Bayazit, disclosed this when she paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Hajia Alima Mahama, in Accra yesterday.

The purpose of the visit was for Ms Bayazit and Hajia Mahama to discuss possible ways of deepening the relationship between Ghana and Turkey.

More collaboration

Ms Bayazit said as part of the Turkish government’s agenda to support the new government, the Turkish Embassy in Ghana had already put in place programmes aimed at helping to address some of the development challenges in Ghana.

Most of the programmes, she explained, would be in the form of collaboration that would involve experts from the two countries in specific areas of Ghana’s development.

Ms Bayazit said over the past few years there had been a strong relationship between Ghana and Turkey in various sectors of development, adding: “Both countries have benefited tremendously from the relationship.”

She lauded the minister for her successful appointment and gave an assurance that the Turkish Embassy would open its doors for future partnerships.

Ministry determined

For her part, Hajia Mahama thanked the government of Turkey for the support given to Ghana through her ministry.

She said the buses, which were expected to arrive in Ghana in April, would be distributed to municipalities under the ministry to aid them in the discharge of their responsibilities.

The minister said the ministry was determined to implement various programmes that would transform the country and make Ghana a nation of great possibility.

She also gave an assurance that the ministry would continue to think of ways to engage the embassy in development projects.
