He said that the improvement of sanitation in the various communities would drastically reduce the outbreak of diseases, which would enable the government to save money on health related issues and use it for the development of other sectors of the economy.

Mr Nkansah-Asare made the call when he and the chief of Akyem Asene, near Oda, Nana Karikari Apau Frimpong III, mobilised hundreds of people to undertake a massive clean-up exercise last Wednesday as part of the municipality’s sanitation day activities.

In attendance were security personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Immigration Service, the National Ambulance Service and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).

The volunteers cleared choked gutters, bushes and the streets and public places of litter.

The MCE advised the people to make the clean-up exercise a regular endeavor, urging them not to wait for sanitation days before undertaking such activities.

He praised the people of Asene for their communal spirit and urged them to sustain it to ensure a clean environment at all times.

Mr Nkansah-Asare promised to provide the volunteers with tools whenever they needed them for clean-up exercises.

 Historic exercise

The Asenehene, Nana Frimpong, described the clean-up exercise as historic and praised the government for instituting the sanitation day to reduce the outbreak of diseases.

He stated that the exercise had gone a long way to rekindle the communal spirit of the people, and promised to sustain it to speed up the development of the town.

Nana Frimpong was full of praise for the security personnel, the MCE, NADMO, and assembly members of Asene for their massive turnout.
