Three collaborate to provide health centre at Tema Station
The Tema Station in Accra now has a health centre to provide health care and first aid to the public.

The facility would also provide antenatal care for expectant mothers, particularly residents around the station.
It was provided through a collaboration between the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Accra Metropolitan Authority (AMA), management of the Tema-station and a private contractor.
Inaugurating the facility in Accra last Friday, the Regional Director of the GHS, Dr Linda Van Otoo, expressed delight with it because she said it would be the first port of call for commuters and traders in Accra.

She encouraged all who plied their trade in the area to use the facility and added that it would also dispense care to commuters, especially those who visited the market daily.
Dr Van Otoo indicated that how successfully the centre operated would determine whether the idea of providing similar health centres should be replicated in other parts of the country and, therefore, advised those in the catchment area of the clinic not only to visit it when they were sick, but also go there for check up.
Standard facility
The Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Ebenezer Appiah Denkyira, reiterated that the reason for providing the facility was to bring healthcare closer to the people around, especially pregnant women.
He said 15 more were to be provided in the Greater Accra Region and the expectation was that the new health centre would be a standard for them.
