Thirty-eight companies, individuals honoured for contribution to manufacturing sector

Twenty-nine companies and nine individuals were last Saturday honoured for their contributions to the manufacturing sector at the maiden edition of the Ghana Manufacturing Awards.

They were honoured in 30 categories and received a shield each for their outstanding performances.

The event was organised by Xodus Communications, a local public relations and communications company.

Personalities

The individuals who were honoured included Mr Moses Baiden of the Margin Group Ghana, who was adjudged the Chief Executive Officer of the Year; Dr Ernest Ofori Sarpong, the Entrepreneur of the Year; Dr Samuel Amo Tobin, the Personality Award of the Year; Mrs Kate Quartey-Papafio, the Woman of Excellence Award, and Dr Kwabena Agyei for Lifetime Achievement. 

Awards

The Special Ice Company was adjudged the Indigenous Company of the Year; Access Bank, the Financial Service Provider of the Year; Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited, the Manufacturing Company of the Year; Belshaw Limited, the Chemical Manufacturing Company of the Year; Pioneer Food Cannery, Quality Award, and Interplast Ghana, the Plastic Manufacturing Company of the Year.

Sintex Container Ghana Limited was adjudged the Plastic Manufacturing Company of the Year  while Intelligent Card Production System Ghana (ICPS) won the Plastics Manufacturing Company of the Year.

Other companies recognised for their performance were Inesfly Africa Limited, the Promising Manufacturing Company of the Year and the Manufacturing Innovation of the Year; Latex Foam Ghana, the Foam Manufacturing Company of the Year; Azar Chemical Industries Limited, the Paint Manufacturing Company of the Year; D. T. Engineering Systems Limited, the Best Growing Manufacturing Company of the Year;  Pasico Ghana, the Aluminium Manufacturing Company of the Year; B5 Plus Limited, the Steel Manufacturing Company of the Year; Tropical Cables, the Electrical Manufacturing Company of the Year; Emefa Jewellery, the Jewellery Manufacturing Company of the Year, and Akosombo Textiles Limited, the Textiles Manufacturing Company of the Year.

Food & Beverage

In the Beverage and Water category, Accra Brewery Limited was adjudged the Best Beverage Manufacturing Company of the Year for Alcoholic; Coca-Cola Bottling Company Limited, Beverage Manufacturing Company of the Year for Non-alcoholic, and Blow Chem Industries Limited, Water Producing Company of the Year.

Kasapreko Company Limited was adjudged the Brand of the Year, while Joy Industries Limited received the Emerging Brand of the Year award. 

Other awards were the Bottling Company of the Year, won by Coca-Cola Bottling Company; Local Content Award, Ghana Oil Palm Development Company, and Packaging Product Manufacturing Company of the Year, Kane-Em Industries Limited.

The rest included Fabrications Company of the Year, won by Accents and Arts; Excellence in Health Safety, Environment and Quality of the Year, Tropical Cable and Conductor Limited, and Marketing Campaign of the Year, Latex Foam Ghana.

Deputy Trade Minister

Speaking at the ceremony, a Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Robert Ahomka-Lindsey, pledged the government’s commitment to intensify the promotion of made-in-Ghana goods to boost the country’s manufacturing sector.

“We believe in Ghanaian manufacturing and its contribution to the economy and communities. We are here to celebrate and salute achievers in the industry,” he said.

Mr Ahomka-Lindsey said the government was ready to partner the private sector to “achieve prosperity and endeavour to provide equal opportunities for all”.

The Director of Xodus Communications, Mr Richard Abbey, said: “We want to celebrate outstanding performance in stewardship, health and safety, corporate social responsibility and innovation in the manufacturing industry.”

He said the awards celebrated innovation in the industry, with the ultimate aim of compelling professionals and companies to compete locally and globally.

 

The Marketing Manager of  Tropical Cable and Conductor Limited, Nana Kwame Oteng-Gyasi, said the company would continue to contribute to the economy by expanding to create more employment for the youth.
