The facility, which is being constructed by the Read- 2- Lead Foundation, established by Ms Samantha Boateng, 17, is intended to enhance reading among the schoolchildren and also improve teaching and learning when completed.

Last year, the foundation built a library for pupils and students of the New Gbawe Cluster of Schools, which has about 5,000 schoolchildren.

The foundation equipped the facility with books and 22 computers which were collected from community libraries, schools, churches and radio listeners within a period of two years, with support from students of the New School of Northern Virginia, USA.

Ms Boateng told the Daily Graphic that her love for reading and the need to help others achieve their aims in life motivated her to undertake the library projects, adding that she was impressed about how the library at Gbawe was being utilised.

“We went to the library at Gbawe unannounced. When we got there, many students in the facility were reading. Indeed, we were so impressed,” she said.

Based on that, she said, she was going to organise a quiz for 10 schools in the area, with the winners being awarded prizes to motivate them to read and learn more.

In addition to that, she said, there would be fun fair for the children this Saturday, June 17.

Regarding the library in the Ashanti Region, Ms Boateng noted that it would be ready by the end of this month.

She said all the books for the library were ready and that friends and other people in her former school, the Grarfield High School in the US, supported her through a book drive initiative.

According to her, the objective in building the library is to create the next generation of leaders through reading.

A third library, she said, would be built in Kumasi next year.
