The company received the award for Best Telecom Traffic Monitoring Solution (Best SIM Box Fraud Solution) at the 3rd Annual Africa Telecoms Fraud, Revenue Assurance and Risk Management Forum held in the Tanzanian capital, Dar es Salaam.

The forum, which attracted telecom service providers, regulators and IT companies from eight African countries was organised by Falcon Business Research (FBR EVENTS PVT Ltd), an Indian-based company, which specialises in organising information security trainings and seminars for telecommunication companies, to discuss the latest trends in telecoms fraud, risk management and the threats to revenue generation through telecoms.

Awards

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, the Event Coordinator, Falcon Business Research, Mr Alfred Lelya Kiteme, said “the awards were presented based on public votes in different categories of awards to be given to people who are providers of solutions to telcos on our website.”

“So these awards are meant to encourage the vendors, as well, to put in efforts in improving their solutions because the participants are able to see which vendor has received which award and which category, so if they are looking for the solution then they will be talking to the right vendor who has put in a lot of efforts in improving the solution,” he said.

The awards, which were in six categories, included the Best Revenue Assurance and Fraud Management Solution received by WEDO Technologies, the Best Risk Management Solution in Telecoms awarded to Roscom and the Best SMS Fraud Detection Solution given to Anam Technologies.

Mr Kiteme stated that the conference was aimed at planning new revenue assurance and detection technologies for fraud management and also to provide the opportunity for vendors to demonstrate their state-of-the-art tools used in combating fraud and ensuring revenue within the telcos.

“The operators who have been attending our events have seen a significant improvement in detecting fraud and combating revenue leakages within their telcos.”

Kenya has been selected to host the fourth forum in Nairobi and to boost the annual meetings, Mr Kiteme said new partners who had come up with innovative solutions that could help telcos combat fraud or help minimise revenue leakages were being looked for.

He expressed the hope that other telecommunication and IT companies in Africa would be part of the next forum.

Subah’s response

Commenting on the award in a separate interview the Chief Executive Officer of Subah Holding Company Limited, Mr Birendra Sasmal said, “Subah is an indigenous Ghanaian company and our state-of-the-art solution Revenue Assurance and Tax Monitoring System (RATMS) has been developed by local engineers, which was competing with many world class companies on the African market.

“It’s an African solution for an African problem and this award is not only inspiring the Subah team but it will inspire many Ghanaian engineers to build more solutions for the African market to solve many other African problems.”

The Director of Subah Infosolutions, Mr Redeemer Kwame, who could not hide his excitement, in an interview, said the award was an international recognition of the hard work started in Ghana in 2010.

“It’s been very consistent, very progressive and now it is breaking forth into the international arena. It is a great moment. It is a good feeling.”

He said the lessons he had learnt at the forum included the loss of revenue through Over The Top (OTT) services, which Subah had not particularly deployed “but this conference has really opened it up to us and we are already starting to look at home grown research development to bring into the OTT monitoring of traffic in order to bring down leakages through OTT.”

Forum

Participating countries included Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Tunisia, Cameroon, Nigeria, Zambia and Sudan, while the service providers were Safaricom, Orange, Vodacom, Millicom, MTN, Airtel, Vodafone and Tunise Telecom.

ICT companies operating in the telecoms sector who were present included Subah Infosolutions, Syniverse, FraudBuster, Wedo Technologies, Anam Technologies, Roscom, WIPRO and Mobileum.

Earlier at the awards ceremony, delegates  shared their experiences and success stories in dealing with fraud, risks and revenue assurance and debated the best practices to counter the ingenuity of fraudsters who operate through ICT and telecommunications.

Topics discussed during the two-day forum included “Automating law-enforcement requests to enhance fulfilment efficiency”, “Fighting against voice bypass fraud – observations on the latest trends”, “Mobile Money: Risk Security and Assurance”, “Mobile money leakages on automation and integrations” and “OTT services fraud”.
