Stop prophesying election outcome – Dr Boadi Nyamekye

The General Overseer of The Maker’s House Chapel International (TMHCI), Dr Michael Boadi Nyamekye, has cautioned against the tendency of some men of God predicting the outcome of this year’s elections.

He said it had almost become a norm for some gospel preachers to use their pulpits to declare the outcome of the 2016 elections and added that if the situation was left unchecked, it could be a recipe for public disorder.

“Our constitution permits freedom of speech. I have heard so many people prophesying victory for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) while others are prophesying victory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC). God cannot be an author of confusion. The same God cannot give divergent views. As to whether what they are saying is good or bad, I think they have the right to say what they want to say.”

Dr Nyamekye said this in an interview with journalists at the launch of the 2016 Experience Conference of the church. He added that if one went by the social barometer for judging good character, then such a practice was not so well and that “it is not good and it is not a good character.”

He stated: “Why so, because, apparently, you are brewing tension as well. The reason being that if somebody is declared as the winner by a prophet, and the prophet has following, and the following believe that what the prophet said is true, and the EC also declares another person winner – if the prophet’s following are headstrong, they can start or foment trouble.”

The ‘Experience Conference’ is a programme put together by TMHCI to help develop and raise the spirituality of people and to bring them into an arena where they can experience the divine favour of God.

This year’s programme is on the theme: “The Wheels of Favour” and speakers include Rev. Dr Robert Ampiah Kwofie and Rev. Eastwood Anaba. The programme is scheduled to run from October 9 to 16, 2016.-

Dr Nyamekye said he would personally not endorse any such declaration by any man of God, no matter how spiritual he or she might be.

He, has, therefore, charged spiritual leaders to refrain from predicting elections and instead pray for the post-election period where a number of challenges abounded if God did not intervene.

For him, regardless of the outcome of the elections, the winner will not necessarily take all Ghanaians out of the problems they have but much will be dependent on the person’s focus, personality and resilience.

“We should pray for post-elections because the person going to lead us will not necessarily take us out of our doom and gloom. What is going to take us into places of glory – whether it is President Mahama continuing his tenure or Akufo-Addo or Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom coming…whoever is coming will need the right focus, the personality and resilience to lead the nation right. So if you are a spiritual leader, pray that peace reigns on our land,” he said.
