‘Stop dumping refuse at Sakumono beach’

Residents near the Sakumono Beach have been asked to desist from dumping refuse at the beach as it poses health hazards to members of the community.

Madam Emelda Armarh, a member of the Friends of the Sakumono Beach, a social organisation, told the Ghana News Agency that  some residents had dug holes at the beach where they emptied their refuse.

“We have a beautiful beach and tourists love it. There is, therefore, the need to keep it clean,” she stated.

Group’s activity

According to her, for the past six months, members of her group, made up of retirees, have been using their money to ensure that refuse dumped at the beach was cleared.

She, therefore, called on the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) to ensure that a garbage truck or skip was positioned at the beach and regularly emptied to ensure a clean beach.

She said with the provision of a garbage truck, revelers would also desist from littering the beach as that also added up to the filth.
