SSNIT’s subsidiary opens vehicle inspection bay

Trust Logistics Limited (TLL), a bulk haulage firm, has launched a vehicle inspection bay in Tema to ensure regular maintenance of vehicles.

The bay has facilities such as wheel alignment equipment, smoke analysers and other pollution-checking equipment, as well as diagnostic garage equipment for the detection of  microscopic faults in vehicles.

TLL is a subsidiary of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust Fund (SSNIT), which funded the construction of the bay at the cost of GH¢700,000. The bay is located on the premises of TLL, formerly the State Transport Corporation (STC), yard near the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR).

The Managing Director of TLL, Nii Lomoete Engmann, said the ultimate objective of the inspection bay was to provide the most comprehensive servicing experience for all types of vehicles, in a timely and thoroughly relaxing environment for customers.

He said a well-serviced and maintained vehicle was needed in the fight against avoidable road accidents.

"We see ourselves as making a contribution as a stakeholder, in making sure that vehicles are properly maintained at specified intervals. And if there is any fault detected, we explain it to the owners of the vehicles so that they can rectify those faults.”

"The connection between healthy maintenance of vehicles and the spate of accidents cannot be underestimated. I think that when people get away with not servicing their vehicles, it is only a false respite because you will never know when you are going to be involved in a major road incident that may result in an accident," he said.

Nii Engmann said plans were far-advanced to build similar facilities in other regions of the country.

The Portfolio Manager at SSNIT, Mrs Akosua Nelson Cuoffie, who spoke on behalf of the Director-General of SSNIT, Mr Ernest Thompson, said the new inspection bay had satisfied "stringent requirements of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA)."

While acknowledging the many challenges the company faced during its embryonic stages, she commended the management and Board of TLL for turning around the company, which had motivated SSNIT to invest more into it.

"In support, SSNIT agreed to recapitalise TLL; a move which led to the acquisition of 10 brand new IVECO tankers and other vehicles. This gave an immediate boost to the company's operating capacity in the bulk haulage business," he said.
