Six killed in accident at Ofoase-Kokoben

Six persons died instantly when the bus on which they were travelling rammed into a fuel tanker at Ofoase-Kokoben, near Kumasi, on the Obuasi-Kumasi road last Wednesday.

The accident occurred at around 1:30 p.m. at Ofoase-Kokoben in the Atwima Kwawoma District in the Ashanti Region.

The six, made up of two males, three females and a child, were said to have died on the spot, while a dozen others sustained various degrees of injury.

Confirmation

The Bekwai District Commander of Police, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Edward Obeng Boateng, who confirmed the accident to the Daily Graphic, said the injured had been sent to the SDA Hospital at Dominase and the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for treatment.

He was, however, unable to give the total number of the injured since they had been sent to different health facilities.

ASP Boateng said the accident involved a Man diesel tanker, with registration number GN 1507-13, and a 207 Benz bus, with registration number AW 1658-Z.

He was unable to tell what actually happened but said it was the Benz bus that rammed into the driver’s side of the tanker, killing the six persons on the spot.

ASP Boateng could not tell if the bus driver survived the accident but said the tanker driver had been sent to the hospital for medical attention.
